Hotel Mesón de Maruca - Juarez, Mexico

In August, 2007, the traffic at the bridges leading back to the US was really unbearable, and I took a room at the Maruca for a few hours sleep before crossing. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least…

For $42 I got a small but very smartly furnished room with an air conditioner which chilled the room in a matter of minutes, which was a very welcome development since it was over 100 degrees outside.

As you can see, the room was very clean and tastefully decorated. For more than one person, I might suggest getting a larger room, and might even get a larger one myself next time. The bathroom was emaculate and supplied with fresh towels, paper, shampoo, and new bars of soap.

The hotel had a nicely shaded porch which I am sure I would have enjoyed had there been more time to do so.

Nearby businesses include a couple of good moderately priced restaurants, right around the corner on Lopez Mateos.

Another aspect of the this hotel which I appreciated was the enclosed courtyard design, which gives visitors a safe place to park their cars and affords a little privacy. As you can see from the photo it’s a short walk to the office where you will find coke and snack machines as well as a small parlor where you can relax if you wish.

The Maruca does not have a lot of rooms, so I would suggest that if you want to be sure of getting one, you might call them and book in advance.
